Can my vagina be too small for sex?

My boyfriend and I have attempted to have sex a couple times now, but each time he says that my vagina is too small and he can't fit his penis in it. He told me that he could barely fit one finger in there.
He's a bit older than me and has had more experience with girls, where I am a virgin, but he says he's never been with a virgin before.
I generally consider myself to be very well educated as far as sex goes for someone who's never actually done it before, but I've never heard of this. I was just wondering if this is a common problem with women or are we doing something wrong? And, whether the answer be yes or no, what we can do about it?
We're trying to be very mature about this, but I'm just at a loss on how to proceed. For most of my adult life, I've been very stingy about the whole sex thing, but now that I'm ready and found someone I fully trust, I'm encountering all these problems.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks.
He's not making me feel inferior. He's just extremely nervous because he's worried about hurting me and he's trying really hard to make my first time a good one. I had to tell him that it is going to hurt the first time and he shouldn't pull away if I make a hurt sound. And I'm typically plenty wet.
I guess a good follow up is how can I make him feel more comfortable?

this is possible but there is a surgery to open it to the fool size ask your gynecologist
